My Love of Reading
Anyone who knows me knows I that I love to read. Most of the time, I have a book in my hand. For years this has been my main hobby. I love the feeling of opening a new book and seeing fresh words on a page. People put their life into writing these stories. They breathe life into the characters until they each seem like real people. I find it amazing that a person can create a whole new world.
To most people, this seems like a boring waste of time. To others, it may seem like I'm wasting my own life away by spending my time reading about the lives of fictional people. But to me, I see it as experiencing multiple different lives within my own. My life may be normal but I can always go to a place where magic exists, or where a romantic adventure awaits.
As a child, I always played pretend. I made up stories in my head and went off exploring everyday. Even just going down the driveway could be an adventure if you try hard enough. Princesses, fairies, pirates: you name it, I had been it. I loved the feeling that anything was possible. Of course I knew it wasn't real. Pretending was the point. I guess that's why when I grew up I started to love stories so much. I hope that someday I can teach my kids the values of pretending and that not everything always has to be what's right in front of you.
Stories are always going to be here. In the real world, in people's lives, in the books that they write. It is our job to take them in, learn from them, and make stories of own.
It's truly phenomenal how we can make up a whole world of our own and put it out there, letting all the vulnerable pieces of ourselves show in our writing, isn't it? Not meaning people have such a passion for reading as you, and I've always admired that about you. Never change and never let the story end!
ReplyDeleteI love when I read a book and the story takes over my imagination. Also, how a book can help you escape from the real world, even if it is just for a moment.
ReplyDeleteI love to read too
ReplyDeleteAs an English teacher, it is hard for me to understand students who don't enjoy reading because I get so much pleasure out of it. It really is a great way to live more lives than one. I don't think I am a very adventurous person, but when I read I go on a great many adventures. Mrs. Tucker.
